We’re a boutique psychology practice working with clients in a warm, thoughtfully designed cottage in Mayfield, Newcastle.

If you’re a clinical psychologist looking for a supportive team, full books and a space you’ll genuinely enjoy coming to, we’d love to hear from you.

More than clinicians.
We are a community.

We started Lacuna Psychology with a simple idea: what if we could create a place where psychologists could do meaningful work in a space that truly promoted calm and collaboration? We have built the space, our books are full and we need more likeminded clinicians to join us.

If you’re looking for a place where you can grow, Lacuna is your next step.

Answers to common questions

  • Yes! We have clinicians who work part-time, however we do require a minimum of 2 days per week.

  • Employment and contractor options are available.

Lacuna can offer a competitive salary under an employment model. Employees benefit from set aside time for 1:1 supervision in psychodynamic therapy as part of their work week with our highly experienced directors.

We also offer services and facility agreements (known in the industry as a contracting arrangement) at a 65/35 percent split.

  • We only see adults at Lacuna. Typically our clients consist of patients with a Mental Health Care Plan, private pay patients or Defence Force/DVA patients.

Many of our patients are word of mouth because we have strong reputation in the community. This means working with highly motivated patients ready for change.

  • We aim to book 6 clients per day between 9am and 3pm (meaning your last client will leave at 4pm).

Some days there may be a last minute cancellation which our Practice Manager will try to fill, but if not, it will mean you only see 5 clients on that day.

Employees are offered regular supervision, and on those days of the week you will only be scheduled 5 clients.

  • We are open to a clinical psychology registrar close to the end of their registrar program. We do offer supervision to registrars.

  • Yes, you need to be in Newcastle. Unfortunately we do not work with remote psychologists at this time as all our sessions are available in person in our Mayfield clinic.

  • No, if you are currently working as a Clinical Psychologist in another setting (such as for a Hospital, a Not-For-Profit, NDIS or other setting) and want to make a shift into private practice, please get in touch.

  • Our highly experienced directors provide high quality, psychodynamic focused supervision to employees at Lacuna.

Employees and contractors alike benefit from our great community of clinicians who regularly “talk shop” and engage in both formal and informal peer supervision.
